EDMONTON (date) – A Canadian flag nearly half the size of the field will be a pre-game highlight of the first home game of the Eskimos’ 2012 Canadian Football League season thanks to a partnership between Yokohama Tire (Canada) Inc., and the Esks.

The flag celebration is a feature of the CFL’s Canada Day Kickoff weekend as the Esks face the Toronto Argonauts at Commonwealth Stadium on Saturday, June 30. Game time is 5:00pm MDT.

The Yokohama support will see a variety of young community groups and athletes including minor football, soccer and elementary school sports unfurl the massive flag in a coordinated salute to youth football. The Eskimo organization is a dedicated supporter of amateur football through Football Alberta.

The Yokohama presence at the game will be enhanced through gate signage advertising and program advertising, while the 150 participants in the flag event will wear Yokohama apparel.

The participation at the Edmonton home opener is part of an enlarged footprint for Yokohama in the CFL for 2012. The bold black, white and red Yokohama colours will also grace sideline signage as part of a support package for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2012.

“Strong brands tend to attract strong brands as partners, so the Edmonton Eskimos and Yokohama are a logical fit,” explains James de Chavez, marketing manager of Yokohama Canada. “The Esks have a huge following – not only here in Edmonton but across the country. Yokohama has a loyal customer and dealer base everywhere. We look good together.”

The Eskimo-Argonaut match-up will be broadcast on TSN.

Yokohama Tire (Canada) Inc. markets and distributes a full line of tires for high performance, passenger car, light truck, and commercial truck applications, as well as off-the-road tires for mining, forestry and construction applications.
