Yokohama reinvests in Canadian Rallysports as supporting sponsor of the Canadian Rally Championship

Langley, B.C. and Maniwaki, Que. (February 7, 2014) – Building on its rich history of motorsport support in Canada, Yokohama Tire (Canada) Inc. is pleased to continue it’s support of the Canadian Rally Championship (CRC) for the 2014 racing season.

Yokohama is once again a supporting sponsor of the CRC, as it has for the past 16 years, will supply Yokohama ADVAN rally tires to competitors in all six events across Canada, and will create recap videos of all the events for broadcast.

"Tires connect the driver and their cars to the ground and Yokohama makes some of the best rally tires available for any conditions,” says Keith Morison, Marketing Manager for the Canadian Rally Championship. “Yokohama Tire Canada's long-time support of the CRC helps us gain traction in our promotion of the sport.”

As a performance tire brand, Yokohama recognizes the importance of proving its product in elite motorsports competition such as rallying. The ADVAN tire was introduced in 1978 and a year later recorded its first victory in B-Class rallying. After numerous wins in Japan Rally Championships, the tire claimed its first title in the 1997 British Rally Championship. Since 2006, Yokohama has claimed five Canadian Rally Championships and four North American championships.

The 2014 Canadian Rally Championship is the pinnacle of rallysport in Canada and draws competitors from across Canada and the United States. The six-event CRC takes place in six distinct climatic regions in three provinces and stretches over four seasons.

It kicks off in February at the Rallye Perce-Neige in Maniwaki Quebec, where winter ice and snow create challenging conditions on some of the CRC’s longest competitive stages. Competitors head east to the Gaspe Peninsula for June’s Rallye Baie des Chaleurs in New Richmond Quebec and a dose of late spring conditions in Atlantic Canada, before returning to the Laurentian Highlands for the Labour Day weekend and the Rallye Defi in Ste. Agathe, Quebec.

The championship chase then heads to British Columbia for the early fall, with The Pacific Forest Rally in the interior community of Merritt and then on to the Columbia Valley community of Invermere for the Rocky Mountain Rally.

The season finishes up in Ontario at the end of November with the classic Rally of the Tall Pines in Bancroft, and its historically sloppy late-fall conditions.

Yokohama Tire (Canada) Inc. markets and distributes a full line of tires for high performance, passenger car, light truck, and commercial truck applications, as well as off-the-road tires for mining, forestry and construction applications. It maintains distribution centers across Canada to serve more than 1,000 independent tire dealers and more than 3,000 retail locations.
